A stomacher is a front panel that hooks into the front-sides of the gown. These panels are usually very ornate and can involve beautiful embroidery and trims, like these!

I am about to start making a fancy pair of mitts to go with my numerous gowns, and these are serving as inspiration. Mitts are basically just gloves with no fingers.

MoMA Database Discoveries Part II: Shoes

Once again, all I could really get in the way of info on each lovely shoe was what they were mostly made of and where they came from. I wish our shoes looked like these! I love it!

MoMA Database Discoveries Part I: Corsets

These corsets are so beautiful! I was so excited to find that they were from many different countries. The most info I could get on them was where they were from and what they were made of, and even that was unknown sometimes. Enjoy!

The Costume Institute (MoMA, NY)

The Costume Institute has a digital database that you can search through that includes 58 pages of 18th century clothing pieces! Well, I can't link to the search that I set up, so I'm just going to periodically post all the good stuff in categories like gowns, jackets, stocking, waistcoats, etc., so that you all can see the clothing pieces without having to sort through a million pages of an internet maze. I know, that's so nice of me.

The Beginning . . .

This baby blog is my new blog devoted to the glories of the Georgian period. I hope to share my encounters with this fragile and lovely by-gone world here on this page. Look for the first real post soon!
